Last week Bob received an email from the Dodgers looking for volunteers for the Think Cure telethon. They needed people at the stadium doing different tasks on Friday and Saturday. I was already going to the game Friday night so I sent off an email offering to help on Saturday. I had no idea what to expect and really I thought we would be stuck in a room with maybe a tv to watch some of the game. Well, I could not have been more wrong. I was in a suite with a handful of former Dodgers and some of the Dodger's wives. I was phone captain and was assigned to Tommy Davis. Dodger owner, Frank McCourt, came in for about 30 minutes and he took Tommy's place. What I was doing was calling people who had already donated and told them to please hold for Dodger Legend Tommy Davis, or Dodger owner, Frank McCourt, and that they wanted to personally thank them for their donation. It sure was right up my alley. We got to be in the air conditioned suite, watch the game and hang out with Al Downing, Kenny Landreaux, Sweet Lou Johnson, Jimmy Campanis, Tommy Davis, and Frank McCourt. The wives of Mariano Duncan, Jeff Weaver, Andre Ethier, and Russell Martins girlfriend were there also. I of course asked Maggie Ethier how the baby was doing. She was very talkative and was telling me that just that day the baby who is almost one, had taken 5 steps, the most he had ever taken and that she was bummed because Andre had missed it.

The best part of the day was just sitting next to the former ball players and listening to them talk about the players and the game now as opposed to when they played.

Here is some of what I got to listen in on- "Did you ever get that much batting practice when you played?" "I saw Manny take like 25 swings, and then he got back in line to do it again". "I was lucky to get 10 swings". "Why do all those guys wear such long pants?" "They look silly" "What pitch would you throw this guy now?" "Now why did he swing at that pitch?" "What was he thinking" "Manny swings too hard. You should swing fast but not hard. He swings too hard" When Matt Kemp hit his monster home run all of them were impressed!! "Did you ever see a home run hit that far?" "Man, that hit where those people are walking".

At the end of the game Al, and Tommy were saying that they needed naps before they drove home. Funny.

Dana and I took Christina down to see the Boston Red Sox take on the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim! It was the second game played after Nick Adenhart was killed tragically when a drunk driver hit the car he was riding in.

To make a long boring story short we got up at 2:30 a.m., loaded the kids and all of our luggage in the car. got in and drove straight to Tucson, Arizona!! We were going to leave Friday morning but I was sick!! Now that I wasn't close to death I was able to join in on the adventure. Our stop was the home of the Colorado Rockies Spring Training camp. Ok, so even though it looks like I have fallen, hit my head, and forgot that I have a Dodger Blog I really didn't. I have just been busy watching games, getting a new laptop, etc....

The Dodgers are in first place of all the MLB!! That is right ALL OF MLB!!

There have been some amazing games and since they have been doing well I have yet to be at a game when they lose. I have seen O-Dog hit for the cycle, 2 walk off walks, a few extra inning games, Ryan Church missing third base, a couple of great pitching duels, and have got to hear Randy Newman's song "I love L.A." A LOT!!

I was supposed to go to the game tonight but that is not going to happen. Bummer! I will be there tomorrow night when Wolfie is pitching so that will be great!

Side note: I have tons of great pictures from opening day but I can't figure out to do a batch resize on my new Apple computer, so for now I will just post a few.

First of all I am really behind on posting here and my apologies go out to Linda, my one reader. I am still in need of posting pictures from the Dodger's Caravan, Spring Training, and the World Baseball Classic, and I need to have all of this done before Opening Day!!

For now I will just comment on the first game of the 2009 season, Braves at the Phillies.

The clips that they showed on TV from the pregame party stuff made me wish SO bad that I was there. I was trying to imagine what it will be like at Dodger Stadium, Opening Day 2010, after winning the World Series this year!! The stadium packed with so much electricity throughout the air. Raising the championship flag with the world series trophy in the foreground. Those fans were so excited, that is until the game started. They were already without their "hot" ace, Cole Hammels, and there were the Braves with their new ace, Derek Lowe. Now, you know they were all thinking how D Lowe had a 0-3 record in his last 3 opening day starts, but that didn't seem to affect D at all. After all, there he was standing on the hill in a new uni playing for a new team. But seriously, how cool of a matchup would Lowe and Hammels have been? Almost as cool as Hudson v. Hammels! Which brings me to a little thing that made me sad. Starting the season with out Huddy. Actually it is a little more than that. Knowing that Huddy will be missing the first 4 months of the season if we are lucky. Sorry, I am babbling, back to the game! How many HR's did Myers give up? 12? Ok, I know not that many but it sure did seem like a lot!! You have to give props to Jordan Shafer for going long in his first major league at bat!! The best part was watching how giddy he was as he ran around the bases. Warning, the girly part of me is about to come out! I started thinking about this boys family, gathered around their TV along with all their relatives and neighbors so excited to see "their boy" up to bat, then he hits it out?? He was only the 99th MLB player to do so. How awesome is that??? Before I leave my girly place I must say that around the 3rd inning I was really starting to feel bad for Myers. Kind of a bad time to have your first bad outing of 09. Of course today is a new day with his bad outing behind him.

Speaking of today!!! Today is when the season really begins. You know, baseball as far as the eye can see!! I could watch baseball from 10:10 a.m. all the way until about 9:00 p.m. tonight. There are about 5 or 6 games that I would LOVE to watch but that adds up to 15-18 hours of me sitting in front of the tv I am thinking probably not.

There are two games that I will watch for sure. The Yankees to see C.C. make his first start and then of course the Dodgers who are starting this year down in San Diego. Linda, I hope you have/had a blast down there!!!

No I am not a traitor but I did go over to the OTHER side this evening! Only the third time that I ever crossed over. The other two times were for Jake Peavy and Greg Maddux. This time it was for Tim Hudson! Since he wasn't pitching I was determined to get him to sign my shirt. Yes, I own a Hudson shirt. He did sign my shirt and we talked for a while. Real nice guy and he even posed while I took a picture of him. I was looking forward to the Braves coming in town all year. I have always been a big fan of Huddy, T-Rex and Francoeur.

Tonight was the second night in a row that I did not bring my camera because of the chance of rain. It was also the second game in a row that they lost. Bummer!

The good news is that the Dodgers have called up Clayton Kershaw and he will start tomorrow in Chad's place. Avery Rose and I are so happy we get to see his MLB debut!!

Although is doesn't happen very often tonight was the second rain delay at Dodger Stadium this season.

I was supposed to take Aedan, Brody, and Cody but since Aedan got sick I brought Kirsten, Avery Rose, and Madyson. We knew that rain was in the forecast and we came prepared. Tights under our jeans, tank tops, long sleeves, short sleeves, sweatshirts and jackets. Gloves, hats, and blankets.

We arrived really early to catch batting practice.

It sprinkled/rained on and off throughout game but in the bottom of the ninth, right after I brought some of my friends to our seats, the skies opened up!! We didn't leave our seats until the Ump called for the tarp to be put on. Avery Rose was SO excited to get to see that! The funny thing was at some point the rain stopped so they took the tarp off but not 2 minutes later it started raining again and they had to put the tarp back on. The rain delay landed up being about 65 minutes. At 11:00 p.m. Avery Rose ate her second Dodger Dog of the night. They startd the game back up around 11:30 p.m. We did lose but it was an exciting game to watch.

The finale was the awesome firework show that we got to watch from the field. Avery Rose was so excited to be standing where all of the action happens. She couldn't stop looking around soaking everything in. She tells me "I'm so glad I am here!" How cute is she??? The firework show ended after midnight. It was a long game but Avery Rose and Madyson did great and were so happy to be there.

OK, so I was there and we won but I did not bring my camera. It was a great game from the beginning. Chad was awesome!! The great news was that Arizona lost their game, so now we are only 4 games back!!

It is even cooler to come from behind and witness a walk-off!! To see Blake tie the game then go on to hit a walk-off base hit was a dream!! Yeah, I missed his first MLB homerun AND his inside the park homerun but I was there last night!! Plus, this broke my losing streak too!!

Why on earth did Torre leave Broxton in as long as he did today?? They probably would have been better off if they would have put Nomar in to pitch. Seriously???? I do not get that at all!! The good news is they lost and I wasn't even at the game!
Maybe I need to go out of town again.
The good thing is that Blake raised his BA to .323 by going 3 for 4 today. Have I mentioned lately that HE ROCKS?? Well, he does.
Andre was amazing today also. I am sure he was thinking, "keep me on the bench for a few games, I'll show you!!" Good for you Andre, you rock too!!

OK, so I go to Europe, the Dodgers have their best run of the season. The day we fly home (Sunday) they break their winning streak. Yeah, they won Monday and Tuesday, games I DIDN'T go to, then I show up there today and they lose 12 - 1. UGH!!! Even with the loss it was still a fun day at the ball park. Perfect weather, and fun with friends.
Let's hope they win Friday and Saturday when I am at those games. Maybe I will go incognito!

I am finally home from Europe and it seems that I missed quite a bit!! However, I am very happy that I made it home in time to see Blake get his first MLB homerun, even thought I REALLY wanted to be there to see it in person I am very happy for him. To think if he would have hit it Wednesday I would have been there to witness it but oh well I can't be at all of the games.
The whole team is doing great except for Andruw. What is up with him??? I knew would should have signed Torii Hunter!!!
I am hoping we can sweep the Mets and Arizona loses a few more!!
Congrats to Blake!! I am sure there will be many more to come!!

I was bummed that Blake didn't start today because I just knew he was going to hit his first MLB home run tonight!! Oh, well! The good thing is that they sent Troncosco down and NOT Blake. Also, they rested Andre which bummed me out too. Didn't Torre know that was going to be there??

FYI, The next Dodger game that I will be attending won't be until May 7 as I will be cruising around Europe.

Wow, this was a fun game. The first thing is winning by a score of 11-1 is always fun! Second, the company was fun too! I brought Hannah, Nick, and Zach. They got on Dodgervision a bunch and Hannah was the Islands "Fan of the Game". She got a t-shirt and a $25 gift card. Very fun!

OK, the first thing about tonights game. Avery Rose's birthday is Oct. 11 and for the past year and a half she has been asking to go to a Dodger game on her actual birthday with her best friend Madyson. I explained to her that October is the post season and the Dodgers have only played 3 games in that month in recent years. Besides, even if they did play Oct. 11 she probably wouldn't go anyway because grown ups would be using the tickets. SO, then it dawned on me that April 11 was her half birthday so I surprised her with this game. The best thing was that they were playing the Padres because she LOVES Randy Wolf. So, we went early so we could watch batting practice. Wolfie was very sweet with Avery Rose and even gave her and Madyson each a ball.
I landed up only taking pictures of batting practice and of the scoreboard message I bought for Avery Rose.
It was a great game even though we lost. It always impresses me to watch 2 great pitchers go at it. What I didn't know was that we would get revenge tomorrow night!!

OK, so after winning our first two series we get swept by the D-Backs. I guess it is better than being swept by the Giants. The D-Backs are a really good team right off the bat! We still have a lot of guys struggling i.e. Martin.
I am going to the games on Friday, Saturday, and next Wednesday. I am hoping Penny does a little better against Peavy this time. This is the game that I am most looking forward to. I do bleed blue but boy I love watching Peavy pitch. Very impressive!!

We were at Exibition Park yesterday and snapped a few pictures of the Baseball Festival going up. Lots of Dodger Blue, more bounce houses than you can imagine with tons of port-a-potty's!! I am really looking forward to this historic event!

Ok, so we finally won our second game of the preseason. So, we have won two, tied one, and lost the rest (4).
Today's game should be good with Penny starting for us and Santana starting for the Mets. I am definitely looking foward to that! I am hoping that they get all of their kinks out before the regular seasons starts!

OK, so I know that this was just the first game of preseason but we won 5 - 4 against the Braves. Tim Hudson was the starting pitcher against Jason Johnson who did a great job filling in for Chad.
I am excited because tomorrow's game will be televised on ESPN! I am so ready for opening day!! 32 more days!

A week and a half ago the Dodgers did their annual caravan. This year a stop included an autograph session at Yankee Doodles in Santa Monica. Kirsten and I got down there early to have lunch then did a lot of waiting before the Dodgers showed up but it was fun.

OK, the pitchers and catchers reported to spring training today!! The countdown to opening day can begin. 46 more days! Hopefully for me it won't be a repeat of opening day 2007. First of all I wore shorts and forgot sunscreen and didn't realize how hot it was. What happened was that I got a horrible sunburn on the top of my knees. Nice pictures huh? The line take separates the red skin and my brown skin stayed until the end of the summer. Second, the Dodgers lost.
I am looking forward to see what Torre does with the team. I am hoping that Andruw Jones has a great year and I really hope that Jason Schmidt can pitch!!
So, heres to a great year and lots of games in October!!
